Reasons why I don’t like Age of Conan
My second AoC post and probably my last one as well.
This is not going to be a review of Age of Conan as there are plenty already. Also, I’m not going to do a comparison as there are probably plenty already to. These are just my thoughts after playing Age of Conan for a few hours. Please bear in mind that all this is in a level <20 perspective, so game experiences could change after that!
- the game is very linear, the paths to goals are preset and you are not able to wander off into the woods, etc…
- there are still loads of bugs
- characters are not balanced yet
- every new character has the same starting location, so it’s the same levels all over again when you roll a new char
- the visual system is nice but way to heavy on most systems, mmorpgs are not about graphics
- crafting only starts at level 40 ????
- you don’t know when you’ll get new spells or feats and at what level
- most of the time you level without noticing
- sticky walls and items
- invisible walls and items
- even more sticky invisible walls and items
- I hate the jump animation, it looks like monkey that gets caught while masturbating
- speech and missions vocab is nice, but who cares, just gimme my gold and XP
- the combat system is nice for a while … then it’s just 1 - 2 - 3 3 - 2 -1
- those damn invisible walls!!!!
- all characters look alike, I don’t know what a player, npc or enemy is … until they attack!
- it didn’t dare to try, but pvp has to be a nightmare for beginners … spawn campers fest it is!!!
- exclamation marks and question marks … where did we see that before
- after a while the minimap is cluttered with grey and orange arrows, question marks and other dots … wtf
- you don’t need to search your quest objectives … the minimap does it all for you. Next time, let the combat be automatic as well please, so we can watch tv instead of gaming.
- you need experience before you can climb a ladder???? Oh well, putting 80 points in there, trying the ladder … and I fall right through it. Well not enough xp I guess … or just another glitch in the system.
- Death penalties … stacked … I’m dead again already
- you get logged out after being idle to long
- now … why can’t I cross those stairs? Aah, I’m running to much to the left of it and didn’t notice THAT INVISIBLE WALL!!!!
- to many character look like ‘Jean-Marie Pfaff’, anybody seen Kelly around?
- the aggro system doesn’t function properly
- the buddy invite system doesn’t work, probably because non of the trial accounts would ever become a payed account …
- …
This really isn’t my game and to bad it wasn’t possible to test this game first before spending +€40 just to see that after a few hours of gameplay I’m never going to startup this game again.
Oh … and why are all those reviews so promising about this game? You can’t just ignore all of these negative aspects just because it’s a more, and maybe a bit unique, combat system (and not it’s not totally unique either)!!!!!

AoC has some of the worst PvP I’ve ever experienced. It’s a one-shot fest.
Bad show.
I agree 100% This game disappoints on so many levels. It has some nice visuals and atmosphere, and the music is hauntingly beautiful at times, but the game is garbage nonetheless. Lots of bugs. Features that were bragged about for so long simply did not exist, so much so that it bordered on false advertising. Patch after patch I watched the incompetent Devs slowly run the game into the ground. They not only addressed ignorant things instead of important issues, but regularly broke more than they fixed.
I have since used my copy of age of conan to sight in the scope on my .308. It was the most fun I have had with that pile of crap game to date. My last remaining hope is that Funcom gets what they deserve and goes under. I would love nothing more than to see that fat useless PR windbag Erling flipping burgers or cleaning toilets.

I didn’t like Guild Wars, I definatly won’t like this….
Sometimes I long for WoW, but then again I don’t…
sometimes I long for Eve Online but there’s no time.
Still need to wrap up Portal and play some TFC2
